We briefly discussed Korean director Park Chan-wook‘s latest film Thirst, in our most recent podcast. Park, the director of 2003’s twisted and amazing Oldboy debuted his new film at the Cannes film festival a few weeks ago. Thirst secured a North American release at the festival, and an English trailer for the film hit the web this week.

Thirst will have its North American debut at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, which runs from July 9th – 27th. If you can’t make it to Montreal in July, you will most certainly be able to catch Thirst at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. For lack of a better term, Park’s movies are delightfully fucked up: there isn’t a taboo he won’t break. However, while his films are always shocking, the shock-factor always serves the story in a meaningful way and never feels gratuitous. I loved Park’s Vengeance trilogy, and I’m really looking forward to Thirst.
