Hot Docs 2015

The Dork Shelf Guide to Hot Docs 2015

Toronto’s biggest film festival this side of summer is upon us once again. Hot Docs has been responsible for bringing thousands of documentaries from around the world to audiences for 22 years now. These films range from Oscar winners to docs that end up toiling in obscurity despite greatness. The topics cover just about everything under the sun and beyond.

It truly is a city wide event, as the long list of venues illustrates. In addition to their Annex home base, the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, screenings will also be held in the Isabel Bader Theatre, Hart House Theatre, ROM Theatre, The Royal Cinema, Scotiabank Theatre, TIFF Bell Lightbox, Innis Town Hall, Fox Theatre, Kingsway Theatre, The Regent, and The Revue.

Every year Hot Docs has a program that focuses on a specific country, this year that country is India. Filmmakers will be attendance for Q&As following many of the screenings, and be sure to check out Scotiabank’s Big Ideas series which features five thought-provoking documentaries and will give audiences a chance to hear first-hand from the notable subjects and experts on the issues featured in the films.

The festivities kick off Thursday, April 23rd, with the international premiere of Tig as the opening night film. The festival runs until Sunday May 3 and we will be adding reviews and interviews to this page throughout. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to receive all of our Hot Docs updates and coverage.
