Metro Morning: Memoir of a Snail and Black Box Diaries

Editor-in-chief Jason Gorber reviews two productions that thrive due to their authenticity and craftsmanship. First, Memoirs of a Snail, a touching animated story that will reach the heart of the viewers from the get-go; both the animation technique and the character’s charm are turning points for a well-crafted film that shines with Succession‘s Sarah Snook in the lead.

Next, Black Box Diaries brings us a personal documentary from producer and director Shiori Ito, which is a crude telling of her own abuse and subsequent perils fighting the enormous sexism installed in Japan’s judicial system.

Compassion, sadness, grief, and fulfillment: this is a great week to let your feelings lead your experience in the cinema with options for adult audiences who are looking not just for a good story but a revealing message.
