The Shelf Minisode: David Lowery on A Ghost Story

After successfully crossing over to big budget studio filmmaking with Disney’s Pete’s Dragon, indie darling David Lowery wanted to make something quick and inexpensive. So what does he do? He puts Casey Affleck in a bed sheet to haunt Rooney Mara in A Ghost Story. It may sound odd but the result is one of the most touching and surprising films of the year.

In this chat with Dork Shelf’s Jason Gorber, Lowery gets into the film’s ideas, production, and connections to his previous projects like Ain’t Them Bodies Saints and Upstream Color. Lowery also talks a bit about his next film, Old Man and the Gun, which is already in post production and sounds like another scrappy experiment with an all-star cast.
