A little-known caper of a Canadian story is making its way to the big screen next week and you could be among the first to see it!
In the mid-’80s, charming career criminal Gilbert Galvan Jr. escapes from a U.S. prison and makes his way north to Canada, where he takes on an assumed identity: Robert Whiteman. When he falls in love with a caring social worker (Elisha Cuthbert), he realizes he doesn’t have the resources to provide for a life together, so he sets out to rob banks. He gets so good at his new gig that soon he’s flying around the country robbing multiple locations in a day, causing the media to dub him The Flying Bandit. Now that he’s had a taste of the high life, he sets his sights on bigger things, which puts him directly in the sights of a ruthless detective (Nestor Carbonell) who will stop at nothing to bring him down.
Directed by Allan Ungar, the film is set to open in theatres on September 23 but That Shelf wants to send you and a friend to see BANDIT before anyone else at an advance screening on September 19 in Toronto, which includes a special Q&A with Ungar.
