If you’re looking to get out of the cold this weekend – or perhaps to get a little holiday shopping done – you might want to check out the Bit Bazaar Winter Market at on Saturday. The event features an arcade, live performances, local food, and dozens of independent game developers and comic book artists, providing guests with an opportunity to get a look at some of the best creative projects currently in development in Toronto.
Originally conceived as a gaming-themed offshoot of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in the spring, Bit Bazaar has since expanded to incorporate independent artists from multiple different media. The gaming lineup for the 2014 Winter Market includes familiar faces like Drinkbox Studios (Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition), Golden Gear (Fate Tectonics), and Rokashi (I’m Fine), as well as a slew of newcomers equally deserving of your attention.
If games aren’t your thing (though I have no idea why they wouldn’t be), there will also be several comic book artists presenting titles with names like By Crom!, These Were Free on My Blog, and Butts. The event is free (food and drinks are extra), so there’s no reason not to attend if you’re in Toronto. The TTC may be obnoxious, but you’re sure to find something that makes the trip worth your while.
The Bit Bazaar Winter Market runs from 11am to 7pm on Saturday, December 6th at Bento Miso (862 Richmond Street West) in Toronto. The musical performances begin shortly afterward at 8pm, with a separate $10 cover for admission.
