The Black Widow Trailer Sees Natasha Bring the Family Back Together

“Nothing Lasts Forever”

Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow) has long been the most mysterious Avenger, which says a lot considering the group includes an alien, a witch, and a cosmically powered android. Ever since Avengers in 2012, fans have clamoured for more details about the former Russian spy, and now, after nearly a decade, they’ll get their answers. Hopefully…

Black Widow follows Natasha during the time between Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War, a period where she and some of her fellow Avengers were on the lam. It looks like Natasha heads home to deal with some unfinished business and gets tied up in some nonsense involving her “family,” which includes another Black Widow, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). But family is a loaded word.

As a child, Natasha was part of the top-secret Black Widow Ops programs, where she learned combat and espionage in the Red Room Facility. This training transformed her into the world’s most lethal assassin, but she wasn’t alone. The Black Widow program took in many other orphaned girls, though few could match Natasha and Yelena’s fighting and espionage abilities. And judging by the trailer, it looks like there’s still a bit of sibling rivalry.

Black Widow Teaser trailer:

Unless you watched Marvel’s Agent Carter series, Black Widow’s origin story is a huge MCU blind spot, so diving into Natasha’s past has been a long time coming. But let’s not forget, Black Widow is a big-budget action flick, and it’s filled with all the over-the-top spectacle you could ask for from a summer blockbuster. Based on the trailer, most of the action looks closer to the gritty hand-to-hand combat in winter soldier – which I prefer to Infinity War’s CGI-charged set pieces. I’m looking forward to seeing what director Cate Shortland does with the character.
