A few weeks ago Netflix released the first batch of images from their highly anticipated adaptation of The Witcher – a popular series of Polish fantasy novels which also spawned a bestselling video game franchise. And today at San Diego Comic-Con, the streaming service released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming series starring Henry Cavill (Man of Steel).
Watch the first teaser trailer for Netflix’s The Witcher below:
Cavill plays Geralt of Rivia, a so-called witcher – a skilled warrior imbued with superhuman abilities and trained from childhood to hunt supernatural creatures of all sorts – who is unwillingly pulled into the politics of the realm because of his extraordinary abilities and connection to the heir to an empire (Freya Allan). Also in the mix is Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), a powerful sorceress and diplomat who also happens to be in a, shall we say, complicated relationship with Geralt.
If you’re a fan of the books or the games, then you’ll already know that Netflix’s take on The Witcher looks pretty spot on. If you’re not familiar with the series and are looking for something to dig into now that Game of Thrones is over, The Witcher might have the right mix of action, magic, and political intrigue to satisfy that craving – a fact that Netflix is definitely counting on!
The Witcher will premiere on Netflix later this year.
