There’s a line in the new version of A Star Is Born that talks of the 12 notes used to craft generations of songs, each incorporating something from the songwriter who manages to assemble these pieces in just the right way.

Over the decades there have been four major versions of this story where a younger performer is helped by a celebrated talent, only to have one star fall while the other rises. As per my original review from TIFF, I think Cooper’s version is a triumph, and having now gone back and watched the others strongly feel it’s the best of the lot.
