One Battle After Another topped this year’s Golden Globes nominations. The film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson scored nine nominations including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. That’s just one citation short of the record set by Emilia Perez last year. One Battle After Another swept the Toronto Film Critics Association’s annual awards yesterday as well and could do the same here with nominations in every category in which it was a contender.
On the dramatic side, Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value came out in front with eight nominations including Best Picture. On its heels are Hamnet with six nominations and Sinners with seven, with both films also scoring noms for Best Picture. Sinners also landed in the Globes’ Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, F1, KPop Demon Hunters, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Weapons, Wicked: For Good, and Zootopia 2.
On the TV side, The White Lotus led the field with six nominations including Best Dramatic Series. The ensemble series also scored half the nominations in the Best Supporting Actress field, which combines performances across all television: drama, comedy, and limited series. It scored nominations for Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, and Aimee Lou Wood. Walton Goggins and Jason Isaacs were also nominated in the men’s category.
For comedy series, the Golden Globe nominations were a bit more spread out with Only Murders in the Building landing on top with four including Best Comedy Series. It’s followed by The Bear, Hacks, Nobody Wants This, and The Studio with three nominations each. Abbott Elementary rounded out the comedy series category.
The Golden Globes also introduced an award for Best Podcast covering the whopping field of audio storytelling. The inaugural nominees are Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, The Mel Robbins Podcast, Smartless, Up First.
Winners will be announced on Sunday, January 11 with Nikki Glaser as host.
